The Old and New Civil War
56The Truth About the Civil War
The Civil War of 1860 was not originally over Slavery. It was over the Morrill Tax, which was a huge tax on the Southerners. only approximately 6-12% of the people in the South were Slave Owners. When people were realizing the truth, Lincoln changed the scope of the War to Slavery. The Government could have ended Slavery peacably by purchasing the Rights to the Slaves, thereby setting them free. I must remind you that even some Northerners were Slave Owners. The Government is only interested in reaping Wealth from the hard work of Americans and ensuring an exorbitant lifestyle.

What the South Was Really Fighting For
New Civil War
Time To Wake Up
It's time to wake up. Foreign Countries in the Overseas news are saying it. Yet you still slumber as Americans. What is wrong with you people. Drinking too much of the polluted water, or on too many Anti-Depressants. I Sure don't know! Our Country is falling apart because you are still fighting a Civil War, only this time between Republicans and Democrats whom are dividing the people. When will you stop bickering over what you don't like about the other person? Let them live their life the way they want. You can't live it for them. They can't live for yours. Reasonable Regulations - not depriving each other of Rights and Liberties and Property. Stop falling in and playing their game. This is what is destroying our country and they are laughing at us on Capitol Hill. While we get angry over Gun Rights, Abortion Rights, Marijuana (Hemp) Rights, etc, etc. They keep fueling the fire on Capitol Hill and you keep falling for it. Time to stop and regroup. Time to join forces against these War-Mongers whom are using each of us as pawns. Time to Fight back and fight back hard.
Other Countries recognize it, Why can't You

Don't be one of those nuts. There were many factors that contributed, but slavery underscored all of them. It was an issue that festered for near a century and pushed tariffs, regionalism, infrastructure development, economics, technology, expansionism, political equilibrium, etc toward all-but-inevitable conflict.
Your service to the country is highly admirable and deeply appreciated, but has nothing to do with whatever agenda is driving your 'opinion' of history. I have taught history for over ten years and my eyes are wide open, thanks. I'm sure you're a big enough boy that I don't need to sugar coat it when I say that you sort of come across as one of those conspiracy-swallowing, bunker-building, paranoid "Dey out to git us!" nuts. I suggest a drink, the company of a nice lady, and a nap for some much-needed relaxation.
"But you don't learn everything in school or college or in some fancy university. Sometimes you have to educate yourself. Read history."
???
And...you don't suppose that people "read history" in these schools? Or just not the 'real' history you have 'educated' yourself on? Classic conspiracy delusion.
The US Civil War really is over, and the two party system is in no way comparable. Your constant references to the military advance your arguments (whatever they may actually be) not one bit, despite how admirable military service itself is.
So, the Constitution is dead and 'da gubment be comin' to git ya,' because you have to wear a seatbelt?! Did someone mention "basket case"?
You could have a perfectly good conversation about seatbelt laws without the doomsday rhetoric. Really, you could. In fact, up to the point where you would inevitably cross the Mason-Dixon line of crazy, I would probably be largely in agreement with you.
And yes, I know you served in the military.
Your penchant for the dramatic won't bring back the Articles of Confederation. There always has been and always will be a degree of struggle between federal and state/local/personal power. You got a beef, take it up with Madison, then pour through a century plus of court decisions clarifying and interpreting the law, but for the love of Pete, hit 'pause' on the continual loop of Braveheart you've got playing in the background!
" The Constitution was created to limit powers and delegate certain powers, Not, for Government to interpret it."
That is EXACTLY what the judiciary is there to do.
"That's the problem isn't it. The more you interpret it, the weaker it becomes."
Quite the contrary.
"I guess the above comments by our Supreme Court Judge Scalia above doesn't mean diddly to you."
How 'bout ALL the Supreme Court justices since the establishment of the court?
"The Anti-Federalist's and people had just gone through Tyranny with Britian. They were fearful that this new Government could do the same. And they were right in their beliefs."
And they had tried a structure of government that gave virtually NO authority to the federal government and saw that it did not work. That's why they aimed to strike a more workable balance with the Constitution.
Been working pretty well for 222 years now.
It's not my opinion that the US has endured under our current Constitution for 222 years. We are the wealthiest, most powerful, free and secure nation the earth has ever known, and if your 'opinion' doesn't recognize that you need to "wake up," "open your eyes," or whatever other dramatic phrase you like to throw around pointlessly.
"Don't give me your bull crap that we're free."
Ai-ya~
I won't get into philosophical discussions you are not equipped to participate in, so I'll just inform you that 'free' is not an absolute condition and your hyperbole is meaningless and distracting.
" As far as wealthiest nation goes, I guess you don't pay attention to the economic trouble this country is in."
Paying lots of attention. We are still the wealthiest, most powerful, and free nation the world has ever known. I'm sorry you think so little of it. Maybe you should move somewhere you'd be more satisfied.
You are the classic example of a LITTLE knowledge being a dangerous thing. I met lots of you at the post office.
"We have a military that's smaller than China who can devlop a billion man army fairly quickly"
Absolute nonsense. The entire population of China is now 1.3 billion. Do you envision an 'army' of children and old women? More pointless hyperbole. China's military isn't yet anywhere near ours. I would have expected you to be more informed about such things.
"The Iraq War should have never happened"
In YOUR opinion.
"Have you ever been in the military, or are you just some College weanie, who avoided it? Or are you a coward who hides behind words?"
Which question would you like answered?
And we expect our leaders to get along? Good Hub, good debate, to bad it's one sided. Good Job Miller!

There were many factors that contributed to the US Civil War, but slavery was certainly the operative one.
